LG Electronics announced on July 29 that it has held an 'AX Hackathon' to enhance company-wide artificial intelligence transformation (AX) and has selected five innovative projects for implementation.

According to LG Electronics, over 2,100 employees submitted more than 700 ideas. After two months of evaluation and verification, the best ideas focused on practical applications were chosen.

Key selected projects include a '24-Hour Fully Autonomous Work System' that automates software development processes, saving over 1,200 hours per person annually; a 'Product Packaging Design Automation Solution' that reduces packaging design time from 120 hours to just 1.5 hours; and a 'Logistics and SCM Specialized Solution' that cuts ship schedule risk management data analysis time from three hours to one minute.

Also recognized were a 'Unified Work Platform' that reduces administrative task processing time by over 80% and an 'AI-Based Advertising Content Creation and Proposal System.'

LG Electronics plans to conduct proof of concept (PoC) for the five selected projects and expand their application to relevant departments. They will be registered as sub-agents of the company's AI platform, 'LGenie,' for broader implementation.

Now in its third year, LG Electronics' AX Hackathon has established a 'bottom-up' innovation culture centered on frontline employees. Participation has surged from about 500 in its inaugural year in 2024 to four times that number this year, with a total of over 2,000 ideas accumulated to date.

Cho Jung-beom, head of LG Electronics' AX Center, stated, "We will continuously enhance the outstanding projects identified through the AX Hackathon and expand their application across the company to accelerate innovation in our work processes."
