SEOUL, August 6 (AJP) - Hyundai Motor received more than 10,000 pre-orders for its latest Avante sedan on the first day it became available, the automaker said Thursday. A total of 11,094 pre-orders were placed the previous day, setting a new first-day record for the model and surpassing the previous record of 10,058 pre-orders set by the previous version launched in April 2020.

Hyundai attributed the record pre-orders to the eighth-generation model's enhanced competitiveness, citing improvements in driving performance, interior space, safety and other convenience features.

Gasoline models remained popular, while hybrid versions accounted for 27.5 percent of pre-orders. Higher-end trims made up 52 percent of pre-orders, while entry- and mid-level trims each accounted for 24 percent.

"Customers will be able to experience the latest Avante’s advanced mobility through a wide range of options," the automaker said.

Meanwhile, demand for eco-friendly vehicles has been on the rise in South Korea amid high oil prices. According to the Korea Automobile & Mobility Association (KAMA), eco-friendly vehicles accounted for more than half or 57.8 percent of new-car sales in the first half of this year.
