SK Telecom (SKT) announced on August 28 that it has been selected as the project operator for the 'Everyone's AI' initiative, which is being promoted by the Ministry of Science and ICT. This government program aims to support citizens in using AI without financial burdens or usage restrictions.

The SKT consortium plans to introduce a beta version of its nationwide AI service in October, utilizing its proprietary AI foundation model, 'A.X K2,' along with various domestic AI models, with a full launch expected later this year.

The AI services being developed by the SKT consortium will provide contextual guidance on daily and public information, connecting users to necessary follow-up actions. The goal is to make AI easily accessible and user-friendly for everyone in their daily lives.

In the public sector, the focus will be on proactively informing citizens about benefits and information they may need without requiring them to search for it. To achieve this, SKT plans to implement features that allow users to obtain various certificates, including resident registration documents, through integration with government services like Government24 and PASS.

Additionally, the service will offer medical connections that suggest personalized treatment information based on users' health records. For instance, for users who have undergone health check-ups, the AI can act as a 'health management assistant,' consolidating scattered test results and medical histories into easy-to-understand explanations while reminding users of necessary follow-up tests. The AI will also guide users to nearby hospitals and assist with appointment scheduling.

In everyday life, the AI is expected to handle tasks such as making phone calls and reservations on behalf of users. As these actions will be executed in real-time, the service will incorporate trust designs that allow users to confirm and approve actions while minimizing the use of personal information.

The SKT consortium aims to create an action-oriented AI assistant that anticipates citizens' needs and facilitates follow-up actions. The AI will understand users' contexts based on conversation content and provide tailored information and next steps.

For example, if a young job seeker inquires about recent job postings, the AI will provide information on new listings along with relevant youth policies. Users can register their interests, and the AI will remind them of application deadlines while assisting with resume writing and interview preparation.

Notably, the SKT consortium's AI service will be accessible not only through smartphone apps but also via phone and text messaging.

SKT plans to ensure that users who are not familiar with smartphones can still inquire about and receive necessary information through phone and text services.

Kim Ji-hoon, head of SKT's AI Business Division, stated, "It is crucial to create an environment where everyone can use AI easily and safely to prevent the gap in AI utilization from leading to new social disparities. We will leverage our experience in operating national AI services since 2022 and the consortium's capabilities to responsibly deliver AI services that citizens can genuinely benefit from."

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Science and ICT plans to sign agreements with three operators in September and officially launch the Everyone's AI service by the end of the year.
