Han Seung-soo, the Prime Minister of South Korea, announced on October 28 that the goal for the Saemangeum development project will be moved up from 2050 to 2035, a 15-year acceleration. The development approach will shift from private investment to public leadership.

During the 35th Saemangeum Committee meeting held at the Saemangeum 33 Center in Gimje, North Jeolla Province, the Prime Minister stated, "We must maximize progress during the current administration to ensure that achievements and momentum continue."

Han emphasized that moving the target forward by 15 years is not merely a change in numbers. "It means restructuring the development focus around public leadership, businesses, and local industries to create feasible plans," she explained.

She also outlined plans to expand industrial land and establish a 10GW renewable energy base to develop Saemangeum as a hub for future advanced industries such as artificial intelligence (AI), robotics, and hydrogen. Additionally, she stressed the importance of managing water quality throughout the development process to preserve ecological value.

Furthermore, Han referenced Hyundai Motor Group's investment plan of 9 trillion won announced in February, urging relevant ministries to proactively support the implementation of this investment plan without delays.

She remarked, "The next decade will determine the future of Saemangeum," and called on the Saemangeum Development Agency, North Jeolla Province, and related ministries to swiftly establish detailed plans and ensure smooth execution.
