Chinese President Xi to visit S. Korea July 3-4

Chinese President Xi Jinping plans to visit South Korea on July 3-4 for summit talks with President Park Geun-hye, Japan’s Kyodo news agency reported Thursday, quoting diplomatic sources.

In a Seoul-datelined dispatch, Kyodo said the visit is to reciprocate Park’s trip to China in June last year.

It would be the first trip to Seoul by the Chinese leader since his inauguration in March last year.

Top item on the agenda of the two leaders would be North Korea’s nuclear programs as tensions persist on the Korean Peninsula, observers said.

In their first summit meeting last year, they said that they will not tolerate or accept a nuclear-armed North Korea.
