South Korean companies had a combined 74.1 percent share of the global mobile DRAM market in the fourth quarter of last year, down 4.2 percentage points from the previous quarter, an e-commerce site said Friday.

Samsung Electronics saw its market share drop 4.6 percentage points to 46.1 percent, while SK Hynix's share slightly rose to 28 percent from 27.6 percent, according to dramexchange.com said.

It said Samsung had a drop in its mobile DRAM revenue by 5.5 percent quarter-on-quarter mainly due to "product mix adjustments."

"Samsung is currently mass producing mobile DRAM on the 23nm process, mainly 4Gb LPDDR3. While 8Gb LPDDR3 mono die is planned for the future, and it is expected to improve Samsung’s cost structure and make the company the most profitable of the three DRAM heavyweights," it said.

SK Hynix’s mobile memory revenue, meanwhile, increased by 5.4 percent compared with the previous quarter. "This based on SK Hynix and Micron being the main mobile DRAM suppliers for Apple’s iPhone. The strong iPhone demand hence led to revenue growths for both companies," it said.

The American DRAM maker's share in the market rose from 19 percent to 23.3 percent, it said. Micron's mobile DRAM revenue for the fourth quarter soared more than 20 percent, compared with the third quarter.
