The Seattle-based company, which is now called "Doosan GridTech", will be led by new CEO Choi Dae-jin while its founder David Kaplan will serve as chief operating officer. The US company, founded in 2011, makes software to integrate batteries and other distributed energy technologies with the electricity grid.
The business of Doosan Heavy, a key subsidiary of South Korea's Doosan Group, includes the manufacturing and construction of turbines and generators, desalinationa plants, nuclear and thermal pwer plants.
In an open letter posed on its homepage, 1Energy Systems said it would continue its mission of delivering technology-based solutions that accelerate the development of the digital distributed electric grid.
"Acquiring 1Energy furthers a multi-year strategy to extend Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction’s energy solutions portfolio from power generation to transmission and distribution, and to increase the firm's presence in distributed and renewable energy technologies," Choi and Kaplan wrote.
"1Energy's software platform will form the foundation of a set of solutions designed to accelerate adoption of distributed energy resources on power systems worldwide."
1Energy's platform helps utilities integrate, manage, and control energy storage and renewable energy generation systems. Customers are using it to help manage energy storage projects with a combined power capacity of about 30 megawatts.
