South Korea's off-road vehicle maker, SsangYong Motor, unveiled a special version of its best-selling compact sport utility vehicle (SUV) "Tivoli" in a bid to head off a strong challenge by Hyundai and other domestic firms which have introduced a series of competitive models.
"Tivoli Armour" was introduced at a press event in Seoul on Monday. SsangYong said said design changes were made to reflect consumer demands, ringing out the aggressive image of its original SUV.
SsangYong will start Tivoli Armour's sales on July 20. According to a leaked price table, the lowest trim of its gasoline engine version will come with a price tag of 16,510,000 won (14,640 US dollars) and the highest trim will cost 22,420,000 won.
Tivoli was released in 2015 and soon became a best seller, creating a sensational boom in the domestic SUV market which is now crowded with contenders. SsangYong will also release "Tivoli Armour Gear Edition", the first order-made concept SUV with HID head lamps, high-class quilted leather seats and special lightings inside the cabin. The Gear Edition is priced at 21,950,000 won.
