SEOUL -- Samsung Electronics will interlink smart home appliances with Kakao I, an artificial intelligence platform developed by the service solution wing of South Korea's web service giant Kakao. Customers can control their smart home environment using voice and manage the operation of their homes with an integrated app.

Samsung said that smart home appliances such as washing machines, dryers, air purifiers, and robot cleaners will support Kakao I. Other devices such as air conditioners, smart cabinets, and dishwashers will support Kakao I later. Smart appliances will be connected using Samsung's integrated app. "Samsung customers will be able to experience a more convenient smart home," Samsung's consumer electronics division head Park Chan-woo was quoted as saying.

Samsung already operates "Bixby," an AI-based voice assistant platform. However, the smart assistant mainly provides help through smart devices such as smartphones and tablet PCs. Kakao I is an integrated AI platform that incorporates various AI engines to develop and operate new services. Kakao Enterprise provides Kakao I as a platform as a service (PaaS) to dozens of partner companies in various sectors including mobility, food service, finance, communication, and administrative services.

A home network system harnesses home appliances with data communication capabilities together using WiFi. A smart home network allows users to monitor their home environments while controlling each appliance remotely. Samsung is a leading company in the smart home market, which is estimated to reach $135.3 million by 2025, according to global market research company Markets and Markets.
