SEOUL -- Hyundai Mobis, the parts-making wing of South Korea's Hyundai auto group, has developed a "clusterless" head-up display that improved safety and convenience by raising essential driving information to the driver's eye level. The display size of information is 15 inches, and the display can increase the utilization of internal space.
The new device that presents data without sequiring users to look away from their usual viewpoints has integrated functions of a transparent visual display and an electronic instrument cluster, or digital dash. "If clusters and HUDs are combined, they will play a major role in safe driving by securing space and securing the driver's forward vision through the unification of driving information," Han Young-hoon, head of Hyundai Mobis information display sector, said in a statement on June 24.
The new device consists of four display regions. At the top, the driver can check basic information such as speed, RPM, information related to an advanced driver support system, and road guidance. The bottom displays information such as shift mode, cooling water temperature, and mileage. Turn signals and system information warning lights are also displayed.
For its news display, Hyundai Mobis said it has adopted a new method of manufacturing an optical glass mirror while increasing visibility by designing the fixed frame sloped toward drivers.
The transition to future cars requires simplified clusters. Hyundai Mobis promotes its HUD as a technology optimized for autonomous driving and electric vehicles. The company aims to win global orders while preoccupying future cockpit technologies through the development of integrated infotainment platforms.
