SEOUL -- President Yoon Suk-yeol will arrive in the Netherlands for a five-day state visit. The presidential office said that the president will work on accelerating economic cooperation between Seoul and Amsterdam.

According to the presidential office, the Netherlands is South Korea's second-largest European trade partner. The European country has strong capabilities in semiconductor facilities, with its industry represented by ASML, the sole maker of extreme ultraviolet lithography (EUV) machinery to make physical chips out of silicon wafers.

The EUV technique allows the production of smaller and more powerful semiconductor chips. The technique enables chipmakers to have the ability to manufacture chips with higher transistor density, allowing makers to pack more transistors into a small given area. ASML currently provides its EUV technology to global chipmakers such as Intel, Samsung Electronics, and Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC).

During his state visit, President Yoon will engage in a summit meeting with Netherlands' Prime Minister Mark Rutte to discuss cooperation between South Korea and the Netherlands in the semiconductor industry, the presidential office said. Samsung Electronics Chairman Jay Y. Lee and Chey Tae-won, SK Group Chairman will accompany the president.
