SEOUL -- BTS member Jimin's solo digital single will be released while he fulfills his mandatory military service in South Korea. The 28-year-old will deliver his sincere feelings toward his fan club, "ARMY," through the song titled "Closer Than This."

Big Hit, the agency of BTS, said the digital single will be rolled out at 2:00 p.m. (0500 GMT) on December 21. "As we approach the final days of 2023, we hope that 'Closer Than This,' with its lyrics conveying Jimin’s love and affection for his fans, will bring you hope and warmth," the agency said on fan community platform Weverse.

Along with the seven-member band's youngest artist Jungkook, Jimin started his 18-month military service on December 12. The two artists are currently going through five weeks of basic training at a front-line infantry division that guards the inter-Korean border.

Jimin has been active as a solo artist while BTS is taking a hiatus. In April 2023, the singer ranked second on Billboard's top 200 popular albums chart with his first solo album "Face." He topped Billboard's top 100 popular songs chart with the album's title track "Like Crazy." In January 2023, he was appointed as the global ambassador of Christian Dior, a France-based high-end luxury fashion brand known as Dior.
