SEOUL, July 04 (AJU PRESS) - Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI) has signed a memorandum of understanding with Peru's state-run aviation maintenance company, SEMAN, for the joint production of FA-50 light attack aircraft parts, Korea's sole aircraft maker announced on Thursday.

SEMAN, which operates under Peru's Ministry of Defense, is responsible for the maintenance and performance upgrades of aircraft. The agreement followed discussions on industrial cooperation measures with the Peruvian government, Air Force, and SEMAN during the SITDEF 2023 defense exhibition held in Peru in May 2023.

Over the past year, KAI has conducted on-site inspections in Peru. With the signing of this MOU, a joint taskforce will be formed to commence practical work on the production of key parts such as machinery and sheet metal.

"Peru is a meaningful country for KAI as it opened up new markets in Latin America by contracting to export 20 KT-1P aircraft in 2012, beyond Southeast Asia and the Middle East," said KAI President Kang Goo-young.

"This cooperation in FA-50 parts production is expected to enable SEMAN, which plays a key role in the Air Force modernization project, to create high added value and pursue new growth engine projects," Peruvian President Dina Boluarte was quoted as saying.
