The video for the English single, "Done," released on Sept. 10, had accumulated over 1,342,500 views on YouTube as of Thursday. It shows nævis, SM's first virtual artist, performing alongside four human backup dancers.
In her debut track, nævis embarks on a journey toward freedom, breaking free from the constraints of the space and existence that had confined her for so long.
Her debut follows unexpected appearances in music videos and a concert by K-pop girl group aespa.
"If nævis were to hold a concert, we would seek out the most effective technologies available to ensure she stands out as much as possible," Park Jun-young, chief creative officer (CCO) of SM, told AJP. He added that SM has frequently experimented with concerts incorporating cutting-edge technologies like holograms, and during her recent appearance at an aespa concert, the stage was designed using anamorphic technology.
According to Park, nævis has been designed as a character capable of adapting to various content formats, such as a virtual YouTuber or a web comic protagonist.
One of her key features is the ability to seamlessly shift between a 3D character resembling a human and a 2D character reminiscent of animation.
"Since the artist's narrative is crucial, we used simple English expressions to clearly communicate the story to global fans," Park said. "We aim to engage a worldwide audience by experimenting with various genres."
Earlier this month, SM partnered with telecom operator LG Uplus to create diverse content for the digital human, utilizing LG Uplus' generative AI technology.
