They are attempting to secure any evidence and other materials related to a series of allegations involving Jeon Seong-bae, a shamanic figure known as Geonjin Beopsa, who allegedly bribed Yoon and his wife, Kim Keon Hee, with luxury jewelry and high-end handbags in exchange for political arrangements and other favors.
Despite his ouster from office atter the Constitutional Court of Korea's ruling early last month to impeach him over his botched martial law debacle late last year, Yoon, who was immediately stripped of all presidential privileges, is still being protected by a team of around 40 security personnel at his private residence in Acrovista, Seocho-dong, south of the Han River.
However, the raid and search of his private residence does not require approval, meaning that the couple cannot refuse entry, unlike at the presidential office in Yongsan or his former official residence in Hannam-dong.
Prosecutors have reportedly obtained information that a senior leader of the Unification Church, better known as the Moonies, allegedly delivered not only a diamond necklace but also an expensive handbag to Jeon as a gift for the first lady, though it remains uncertain whether the gift was actually given to her.
