The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) of Iran has claimed responsibility for attacks on U.S. military facilities in Kuwait and Bahrain in retaliation for recent American airstrikes.

On June 28, local time, IRGC stated in a press release that it conducted a large-scale missile and drone operation targeting eight U.S. military sites in the region. The IRGC reported that its naval and aerospace forces executed a joint operation between 2 a.m. and 3 a.m., attacking key U.S. installations, including the Ali Al Salem Air Base in Kuwait and the U.S. Fifth Fleet headquarters at Salman Port in Bahrain.

The IRGC emphasized, "Any future attack by the enemy, regardless of its justification or whether it targets what is perceived as less significant, will face overwhelming retaliation." They added that the enemy must understand that violating the ceasefire would constitute a breach of Article 1 of the Islamabad Agreement, leading to a complete suspension of all related procedures.

In response, the Kuwaiti military announced via X (formerly Twitter) that it was activating its air defense systems to intercept enemy aerial targets. As of now, there have been no confirmed reports of casualties or damage to facilities.

The United States and Iran have been caught in a cycle of escalating tensions since signing a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on June 17. This cycle has included attacks on civilian vessels in the Strait of Hormuz, U.S. airstrikes, and Iranian retaliatory actions.

Previously, on June 25, the U.S. conducted airstrikes on Iranian military facilities in response to an attack on a civilian vessel passing through the Strait of Hormuz. Following another attack on a tanker on June 27, the U.S. targeted additional Iranian military sites, further heightening tensions between the two nations.
