Jung Jeom-sik: Disciplinary Action Possible from Ethics Committee

Jung Jeom-sik, the floor leader of the People Power Party, stated on July 8 that the Central Ethics Committee's initiation of disciplinary action against current lawmakers is a possibility, emphasizing that any such action must resonate with the majority of the public, party members, and lawmakers.

During an appearance on the Daily Newspaper's YouTube channel, "Lee Dong-jae's News Cabinet," Jung remarked, "The initiation of disciplinary procedures regarding any incident, the individuals involved, and the severity of the discipline must be at a level that many can agree upon."

He clarified that the Ethics Committee has not reached any conclusions yet but is reviewing the overall circumstances surrounding various incidents. He expressed hope that the process would be conducted in a manner that many citizens, party members, and lawmakers can relate to.

Addressing interpretations suggesting a rift with party leader Jang Dong-hyuk, Jung stated, "I find it difficult to agree with that. The party leader and the floor leader each oversee party affairs and represent the National Assembly. While our opinions may not always align, we do engage in discussions when necessary."

Regarding internal party conflicts, he asserted, "We must quickly overcome the reality where members do not even shake hands or engage in dialogue due to faction differences. Through internal unity, we can regain the trust of the public, enabling us to engage in strong opposition and address people's livelihoods. I will strive to move in that direction moving forward."

On the Democratic Party's unilateral progress in forming committees, he mentioned plans to convene a meeting with senior members to gather their opinions on future strategies. He cautioned against the proposed mass resignation of lawmakers, stating, "There is a significant risk of it becoming a farce. If we were to do it, it would need to be with the resolve that we are truly resigning, which is why we have not reached that point in our discussions."
