LS Mtron is expanding its on-site marketing and technology distribution for autonomous tractors across the country.
On September 14, LS Mtron announced that it has conducted a total of 140 test drive events for its autonomous tractors in 86 locations nationwide, from Gangwon's Goseong to Jeju Island. Over 10,000 farmers and local officials participated.
Participants had the opportunity to operate the MT9 and MT7 autonomous tractors, experiencing their ease of use and potential applications in agricultural settings. They also explored autonomous operation features tailored to regional agricultural environments and crop characteristics.
In July, LS Mtron held the first test drive event for autonomous tractors in Seogwipo, Jeju, where about 70 agricultural representatives attended to see demonstrations of features suited for the island's crop-focused farming environment.
Since the first commercialization of autonomous tractors in Korea in 2021, LS Mtron has continued to develop new technologies, including obstacle detection and autonomous operation on irregular farmland. The company has established three mega centers in Jeonbuk (Central), Jeonnam (Southern), and Gyeongbuk (Eastern) where these tractors can be experienced year-round.
As rural aging and labor shortages intensify, the demand for autonomous tractors is expected to rise. According to the preliminary results of the 2025 Agricultural, Forestry, and Fisheries Census by the National Data Agency, the proportion of farmers aged 65 and older has surpassed 51.3% for the first time. The average age of farm operators is 67.7 years, with 78.8% being 60 years or older.
Shin Jae-ho, CEO of LS Mtron, stated, "I hope more farmers can experience autonomous tractors and find ways to utilize them in their farming environments. We will continue to enhance autonomous operation technology to reduce the workload for farmers and increase productivity."
