Hyundai Department Store Group's affiliates have contributed to the creation of emergency housing in Changsin-dong, Jongno District, utilizing their business capabilities.
On September 21, Hyundai Department Store Group announced that four of its affiliates—Hyundai L&C, Hyundai Livart, Zinus, and Hyundai Green Food—are supporting the 'Emergency Housing Project Utilizing Vacant Houses in Changsin-dong' in collaboration with the Jongno District Office and the Jongno Housing Welfare Center.
The emergency housing provides temporary living spaces for families who have suddenly lost their homes due to disasters such as fires or floods. This initiative involves remodeling old houses owned by the Seoul Housing and Urban Development Corporation (SH) that have been vacant for an extended period, transforming them into temporary residential facilities.
The affiliates provided necessary goods and services tailored to their respective business areas. Hyundai L&C supplied building materials such as flooring, wallpaper, and interior films, and offered training on the installation of interior films to volunteers involved in the remodeling, along with mentoring on space design.
Hyundai Livart contributed essential furniture, including dressers, wardrobes, sofas, and dining sets, while Zinus provided bed frames and mattresses. Hyundai Green Food supported meals and snacks for university student volunteers working on-site during the project.
The remodeling project targets a single-family home with a basement and two floors, covering a total area of 158.07 square meters (approximately 48 pyeong). After renovations, the first and second floors will accommodate four families in emergency housing, while the basement will feature a cultural space for local residents.
The completed emergency housing will be managed by the Jongno District Office, which will oversee contracts and tenant placements, while SH will provide the space at no cost. The Jongno Housing Welfare Center will handle the operation of the facility.
Lee Kang-hyun, head of the brand marketing team at Hyundai L&C, stated, "It is meaningful to be able to provide practical assistance to neighbors in need of immediate shelter due to disasters like fires and floods. We plan to continue our charitable activities aimed at improving living environments by leveraging our expertise in interior design."
