Since the implementation of the retirement pension asset transfer system, Korea Investment & Securities has seen over 2 trillion won in pension assets transferred to its management. The company plans to accelerate its challenge for market leadership by completely overhauling its mobile trading system (MTS) for pensions and establishing a comprehensive pension platform that manages the entire process from accumulation to operation and withdrawal.

On October 6, Korea Investment & Securities held a presentation at TP Tower in Yeouido, Seoul, where it unveiled the revamped pension home screen and key features such as 'My Total Pension Assets' and personalized notifications. According to the company, the pension assets transferred since the implementation of the asset transfer system have exceeded 2 trillion won, with the number of Individual Retirement Pension (IRP) accounts surpassing 567,000. The company noted that approximately 70-80% of the transferred funds came from banks, while the transfer rate between securities firms was around 20-30%.

Korea Investment & Securities currently ranks third in the securities industry based on retirement pension reserves and is about tenth among all providers. The company aims to combine its existing private banking (PB) and investment banking (IB) strengths with a digital platform to achieve long-term leadership in the pension sector. It is particularly focused on establishing a long-term asset management system rather than merely selling products, as it seeks to maintain relationships with pension clients for decades.

The core of the MTS overhaul is to allow customers to view their total pension assets at a glance and take necessary actions immediately. Users can now see all their pension assets held with Korea Investment & Securities on a single screen, without needing to check retirement and personal pension accounts separately.

In 'My Total Pension Assets,' users can check the overall asset size, returns, and portfolio by product. Information necessary for management, such as this year's contributions and additional contribution limits for each account type, including IRP, defined contribution (DC), and pension savings, is also provided. Changes in cash balances and exchange-traded funds (ETFs) traded on the same day are reflected in real-time, allowing pension accounts to be utilized for actual investment and asset management.

The company is also enhancing its personalized management features using customer data. For instance, it will guide customers who have opened accounts but not deposited funds, and suggest investment strategies for accounts that have funds but no investments. By analyzing deposit maturities, risk asset ratios, and account management statuses, it will provide step-by-step recommendations for what customers should do next.

The trend of a younger pension customer base is also driving the MTS-centered strategy. The average age of new DC subscribers at Korea Investment & Securities has decreased from 40 in 2015 to 36 in 2025. The percentage of customers receiving pensions has increased from 11% to 85% during the same period. The company believes that a structure is forming where customers open pension accounts at a young age and manage their assets over the long term until retirement.

In the future, the company plans to introduce a service that allows customers to choose model portfolios (MP) based on their investment preferences. It aims to present portfolios by combining its own research, product selection, and pension asset allocation capabilities, without relying on external advisory firms. Additionally, it will gradually add features such as market analysis of held products using AI, comparisons of individual pension management statuses based on overall customer data, and customized withdrawal plans for post-retirement.

Korea Investment & Securities intends to integrate its digital channels with its existing strengths in PB and IB for its pension business. It plans to offer asset management consulting through PB for individual clients and provide comprehensive pension solutions by linking IB and corporate sales networks for corporate clients.

Choi Jong-jin, head of the Pension Innovation Division at Korea Investment & Securities, stated, “There is a need to provide a comprehensive pension platform that encompasses the entire life cycle. Moving forward, Korea Investment & Securities will refine its customer-centric platform to ensure that preparing for retirement is as easy and secure as possible under the motto, ‘There is no retirement in pensions.’”
