The Korea National Railway Corporation will invest 419 billion won (approximately $319 million) to enhance accessibility facilities at five stations along the Honam Line, including Muan Station. Passengers who previously relied on wheelchair lifts will now be able to use elevators to move between platforms.

On October 6, the Korea National Railway Corporation announced the commencement of construction to improve accessibility at Ilro, Imseongri, Muan, Dasi, and Mongtan stations. The project is set to be completed by the end of 2028.

The construction will include the installation of elevators, the construction of new connecting passageways, and the renovation of aging platform roofs. Existing underground passageways used for passenger movement will be upgraded to above-ground connecting passageways, and old platform roofs will be demolished and replaced.

The project aims to improve mobility for individuals with disabilities who have relied on wheelchair lifts to navigate between platforms. With the installation of elevators, the corporation stated that passengers with mobility challenges will be able to move more conveniently between platforms.

As the construction will take place adjacent to active train tracks, the corporation plans to monitor site conditions and ensure the safety of facilities at each station throughout the project. The entire initiative is targeted for completion by the end of 2028.

Some construction contracts have already been finalized. According to the Korea National Railway Corporation's electronic procurement system, a contract for the "Accessibility Facility Improvement Project at Mongtan Station on the Honam Line (Phase 1)" was signed in September for approximately 9.65 billion won. Additionally, a contract for the relocation of electrical facilities related to the accessibility upgrades at the five stations was awarded for about 1.2 billion won.

Min Byeong-kyun, head of the Honam Headquarters of the Korea National Railway Corporation, stated, "We will carry out the construction without any setbacks to ensure that all railway passengers can use the stations safely and conveniently."
