SK Telecom (SKT) announced that it is collaborating with the Financial Supervisory Service (FSS) to launch activities aimed at preventing financial damage caused by voice phishing ahead of Financial Day.

The campaign combines SKT's artificial intelligence (AI) and communication technology with the FSS's expertise to help customers understand the latest voice phishing tactics and take preventive actions.

Starting October 20, SKT has been operating a voice phishing prevention experience booth for spectators at the SK Knights home games held at the Jamsil Student Gymnasium. Visitors can virtually experience fraudulent tactics based on the latest cases provided by the FSS and learn necessary preventive measures for suspicious situations.

Additionally, during the games, including pre-game, quarter breaks, and halftime, the booth features voice phishing prevention videos and true/false quizzes to help spectators naturally absorb and remember methods to avoid financial scams.

On October 26, SKT will invite FSS experts to conduct training for staff involved in the 'visiting service' program. This initiative aims to enhance the expertise of frontline personnel who interact directly with customers, ensuring they accurately convey voice phishing prevention information.

On that day, the FSS will share various case studies and response strategies, including impersonation of investigative agencies and financial institutions, as well as the use of AI to manipulate the voices of family members and acquaintances.

The two organizations also plan to conduct security training on safe communication and methods to prevent financial fraud through the 'visiting service' in Hapcheon County, Gyeongsangnam-do, in November.

Furthermore, SKT intends to apply verified numbers provided by the FSS to its voice and text spam filtering system to minimize the misblocking of legitimate communications from financial institutions and enhance its voice phishing and scam detection capabilities. Last year, SKT's AI filtering system preemptively blocked approximately 1.1 billion voice spam and voice phishing calls and spam messages.

Lee Hye-yeon, head of SKT's Customer Value Innovation Division, stated, "Ahead of Financial Day, we are expanding on-site touchpoints to help customers learn and practice voice phishing prevention methods in their daily lives. We will continue to enhance activities that protect customers' safe daily lives through education, experience, and technological advancements in collaboration with the Financial Supervisory Service."
