Kakao on Nov. 5 posted a preliminary third-quarter operating profit of 240.3 billion won ($179.1 million), up 7.4 percent from a year earlier. Advertising and commerce on its KakaoTalk messenger drove the gain. Revenue rose 6.3 percent to 2.09 trillion won.
The figures exclude Kakao Games and Kakao Healthcare, now reported as discontinued operations, and the year-earlier quarter was restated on the same basis. Kakao said its quarterly operating profit has topped 200 billion won for six straight quarters.
