The Korea Electric Safety Corporation announced on November 6 that it received the Minister of Climate Energy and Environment Award at the 8th Korea Solar League held on November 5 at the Government Sejong Convention Center for its contributions to expanding renewable energy and ensuring safe energy transitions.

The Korea Solar League is an event co-hosted by five organizations, including the Local Government Council for Climate Crisis Response and Energy Transition, aimed at recognizing exemplary cases of renewable energy deployment by local governments, public institutions, and the private sector.

As a specialized agency for electrical facility inspections and assessments, the corporation has provided technical support and safety management throughout the entire process of solar power facility deployment and safe operation. Notably, it established a 'Rapid Inspection System' and operated a dedicated task force (TF) to quickly respond to the demand for solar power facility inspections. By flexibly adjusting inspection application timings and dynamically allocating inspection personnel across regions, the corporation completed pre-usage inspections for a total of 10.3 GW (gigawatts) of solar facilities (over 240,000 homes) from 2024 to the first half of this year.

The corporation has also strengthened its pre-support services to ensure the stable installation of solar power facilities. It offers pre-technical review services to assess compliance with technical standards before construction, helping to prevent design or construction issues and facilitating smooth project execution. To date, it has provided a total of 142 pre-technical review services for large-scale solar facilities of 10 MW (megawatts) or more.

Additionally, the corporation has continued to support renewable energy projects tailored to regional characteristics and improve related regulations. It has assisted the government-wide 'Sunlight Income Village Promotion Team' in incorporating safety management regulations into village charters and has distributed safety guidelines for agricultural solar power while providing technical advice for the 'Sunlight Connection School' by the Ministry of Education, establishing a foundation for site-specific safety management.

Notably, a regulatory improvement that adjusted the legal inspection cycle for solar power facilities from the previous two years to four years was selected as an exemplary case for improving regulations affecting small and medium-sized enterprises by the Office for Government Policy Coordination in 2025. This change reduces the inspection burden on power producers while ensuring that vulnerable facilities are continuously monitored through special inspections.

The corporation is also leading by example in renewable energy production. It has installed and operates solar power facilities with a total capacity of 1,601.4 kW (kilowatts) across its headquarters and 14 offices nationwide, generating approximately 2 million kWh of clean energy annually. Currently, it is pursuing the installation of an additional 220 kW of facilities at its Daegu headquarters and Sejong remote center, and it plans to continue expanding solar power facilities utilizing unused space in its buildings, as well as providing site-specific safety management support for agricultural and school solar projects.

Nam Hwa-young, president of the Korea Electric Safety Corporation, stated, "Electrical safety is the foundation that supports the expansion of renewable energy. Based on our expertise, we will continue to address the challenges in the field of renewable energy deployment and create a safe energy transition for the public."
