SEOUL -- Assa Abloy, a Swedish company known for high-performance doors and door security solutions, will work with LG Electronics to produce transparent OLED (organic light-emitting diode) automatic doors that can display advertisements and various content such as welcome messages and building information.

LG Electronics said on December 9 that it has signed a business agreement with Assa Abloy for automatic doors using LG's 55-inch transparent OLED signage. "We are going to create a next-generation digital environment based on leadership in world-class transparent OLED technology," said LG's ID business head Baek Ki-moon.

LG Electronics said that transparent OLEDs can be widely used in various places such as hotel check-in counters, museums, subways, stores, self-driving cars and aircraft cabin interiors because they do not need backlights.

LG Display, a major flat-panel maker affiliated with South Korea's LG Group, has established a lineup of premium OLED displays, which are transparent, flexible and rollable. Transparent OLED screens display black content as transparent, allowing designers to overlay digital content such as images, text and video onto real-life objects placed behind the transparent screen.

In August, LG's transparent OLED was used for the windows of subway cars in two Chinese cities, Beijing and Shenzhen, showing passengers traffic information and daily life information such as weather forecasts and news.
