The Nexen Heroes has accepted the Pittsburgh Pirates' high bid of US$5 million for the right to negotiate with power-hitting shortstop Kang Jung-ho.

Accordingly, the Pirates have 30 days to strike a deal with the 27-year-old Kang, the Major League Baseball (MLB) said on its website on Monday (local time). Failing to do so would return Kang to the Nexen, a KBO club, and refund the posting fee to the MLB club. KBO stands for the Korea Baseball Organization.

Pirates general manager
Neal Huntington expressed pleasure with having "secured the opportunity to attempt to add (Kang) to our system and look forward to commencing discussions with the player and his representative in an effort to make that happen."
