Hyundai garners more than 10 mln global connected car service subscribers in less than 2 yrs

SEOUL -- Hyundai auto group said that its affiliated brands -- Hyundai Motor and Kia -- have garnered more than 10 million global subscribers to its connected car services, about 12 years after the carmaker globally introduced the wirelessly connected car management program.
 
Hyundai and Kia cars offer connected services to help customers manage various features of their cars remotely. Drivers can use a smartphone app to remotely control the charging rate of their electric vehicles, control air conditioning, manage security, and diagnose the car's condition. The motor group currently operates three connected car services -- Hyundai Bluelink, Kia Connect, and Genesis Connected Service (GCS).
 
The company's first connected car service was introduced in South Korea in 2003. Hyundai rolled out its connected car services in the United States for the first time in a foreign country in 2011. Currently, Hyundai provides services in some 50 countries including European countries, China, India, and Singapore.
 
Hyundai said that the number of its connected car service subscribers has exceeded 10 million. The number of Hyundai's connected car subscribers is increasing fast as there were about five million subscribers in August 2021. In October 2022, the number of foreign subscribers exceeded that of subscribers in South Korea.
 
According to the carmaker, the number of global connected service subscribers will reach 20 million by 2026. In an effort to accelerate the increase of subscribers, Hyundai would focus on releasing connected car services to countries in Southeast Asia where remote car management services are not yet available.
