SEOUL -- Samsung Electronics has added movie video-on-demand service to Samsung TV Plus, the company's free video content service for Samsung TV users. The tech giant partnered with the ecommerce wing of South Korea's largest telecom service provider KT to gradually increase the number of serviced films to up to 1,000 by the end of 2024.

Video-on-demand (VOD) services are internet-based video content services in which viewers can search and select films they wish to watch on their TVs, PCs, or smart devices. Samsung TV users can access Samsung TV Plus services for free if their TVs are connected to the internet. Currently, the tech giant offers diverse content including drama, variety shows, entertainment shows, and kids' content.

Samsung said that the company and KT Alpha will provide some 150 VOD video content by the end of 2023 and increase the number of content to up to 1,000 by the end of 2024. For the end-of-the-year season, popular films such as "Paddington 2," "Santa Claus," and "The Man Who Invented Christmas," will be available through Samsung's VOD service.

"We plan to increase the number of VODs to more than 1,000 by the end of 2024 by expanding our content partnership based on users diverse preferences," Samsung's video display business head Choi Yong-hoon said in a statement on December 13.
