The government has announced it will award a total of 10 million won to local governments that have excelled in coastal community and port revitalization projects.

On June 15, the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries revealed that it will honor six local governments as part of the "2026 Excellent Management of Coastal Community and Port Revitalization Projects" on June 16. The awardees include Ansan City, which received the grand prize, while the cities of Samcheok and Muan County in Jeollanam-do received the excellence award. The cities of Busan's Saha District, Ulsan's Dong-gu, and Haenam County in Jeollanam-do received the merit award.

Since 2024, the Ministry has been evaluating local governments on their management of coastal community and port revitalization projects. The initiative aims to maximize project effectiveness through the integrated development of coastal communities and ports by utilizing key resources. Following the evaluations, local governments have shown improvements in execution rates and completion records, as well as enhanced project management standards.

This year's evaluation included 18 basic local governments nationwide. The Ministry assessed execution performance, facility completion rates, project management capabilities, and collaboration to select the final six awardees.

Ansan City invested 48 million won from its budget to minimize income gaps for fishermen and inconveniences for visitors while carrying out maintenance projects at Seonggam Port and Pongdo Port. The city also received praise for its swift construction progress and enhanced project outcomes.

Award recipients will receive cash prizes of 3 million won for the grand prize, 2 million won for the excellence award, and 1 million won for the merit award, along with a commendation from the Minister of Oceans and Fisheries. Additionally, they will receive bonus points when selecting new project sites for the Coastal New Deal 3.0 next year.

Park Seung-jun, head of the Coastal Community and Port Revitalization Project Planning Division at the Ministry, stated, "We will share the best practices recognized in this evaluation nationwide to further disseminate the achievements of coastal community and port revitalization projects. We are committed to completing the 183 ongoing revitalization projects without delay to develop key coastal areas into economic and living hubs."
