SEOUL, June 18 (AJP) - More South Koreans are living alone, with one-person households exceeding 8 million, according to statistical data released by the Ministry of Data and Statistics on Thursday.
Single-person households increased by 212,000 to 8.22 million last year, topping 8 million for the second consecutive year and setting a new record. Among them, the number of employed increased by 98,000 to 5.20 million.
By age, those in their 30s accounted for the largest proportion at 1.29 million, followed by those aged 60 and older at 1.26 million, and those in their teens and 20s at 925,000.
About a third or 29.5 percent earned between 2 million and 3 million won, and a similar proportion of 26.4 percent made between 3 million and under 4 million won, with an average working week of 37.7 hours.

Meanwhile, married-couple households fell slightly to 12.65 million last year, down 22,000 from a year earlier. However, among them, dual-income couples rose to 6.15 million, accounting for nearly half of all married-couple households. The trend was especially pronounced among younger couples, with six in ten married couples in their 30s and 40s both holding jobs.
Married-couple households with children under 18 stood at 3.79 million, down 153,000 from a year earlier.
