The Korean Bar Association, led by President Kim Jeong-wook, will co-host the "2023-2025 Migrant Rights Milestone and Obstacle Rulings Report Conference" with the Migrant Rights Research Group on June 24 at 2 p.m. in Seminar Room 2, B1 of the Korean Bar Association building.

The conference will present 14 rulings identified as "milestones" that have contributed to the improvement of human rights for migrants, as well as 6 "obstacle" rulings that have hindered these rights, and 7 "notable" rulings from the past three years involving migrant-related cases.

This event aims to highlight both the progress made by courts in actively considering international human rights norms and the ongoing shortcomings in guaranteeing rights, while proposing improvements to systems and legislation.

Attorney Go Ji-woon will serve as the moderator, with Attorney Jeong Hye-min facilitating the event. Following an overview by Attorney Lee Jin-hye, presentations will cover key cases, including discrimination in compensation for foreign fishing crew members, claims for state compensation for abuse in foreign detention centers, and the unconstitutionality of excluding recognized refugees from emergency disaster relief funds, presented by Attorneys Kim Jong-cheol, Kim Yeon-joo, and Lee Il.

Experts in the field, including Director Lee Han-sook and Attorneys Kim Ji-rim and Park Young-a, will participate as discussants to provide in-depth analysis of the significance of these rulings.

A representative from the Korean Bar Association stated, "We hope this report conference will help address the human rights blind spots faced by migrants residing in the country and lead to practical legislative improvements."
