The Metal Workers' Union of Hyundai Motor Company will begin rejecting Saturday overtime starting next week.

According to the union on June 30, it held a Central Negotiation Committee meeting and decided not to participate in extended work and Saturday overtime starting July 6.

This move aims to pressure the company as the two sides have been unable to narrow their differences during multiple rounds of wage negotiations this year.

However, negotiations that had been suspended will resume on July 2, and discussions will continue. Previously, the union declared a breakdown in talks on June 12 after the company failed to present any negotiation proposals during the 11th round of discussions.

If there is no progress in the resumed negotiations, the union is expected to consider a full-scale strike schedule beyond just rejecting overtime.

Currently, the union is demanding a monthly base salary increase of 149,600 won (excluding seniority raises), a performance bonus equal to 30% of last year's net profit, and guarantees for employment and working conditions related to artificial intelligence (AI).

Additionally, the union has outlined separate demands for the implementation of a full monthly salary system, an increase in bonuses from 750% to 800%, a reduction in working hours without increasing labor intensity, an extension of the retirement age linked to the timing of national pension benefits (up to 65 years), and the hiring of new personnel.
