Syangyong Construction has expanded its competitiveness in the port and marine infrastructure sector by securing a contract for the construction of a coal terminal at Donghae Port in Gangwon Province.

On June 30, Syangyong Construction announced that it has been awarded the contract for the "Donghae Port Coal Terminal Construction Project," which was commissioned by the Donghae Regional Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Office under the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries.

The project involves the construction of a coal terminal capable of accommodating large vessels of 100,000 DWT (deadweight tonnage) in the waters off Guho-dong, Donghae City, Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province. The total project cost is approximately 1.01 trillion won (including VAT), with a construction period of 60 months from the start date.

Syangyong Construction was selected as the final bidder after successfully passing both the comprehensive evaluation and construction plan review conducted under the comprehensive bidding system.

With this contract, the company adds to its portfolio of port construction projects, following its work on the Anheung Outer Port mooring facility last year. The experience gained from constructing facilities for 100,000 DWT vessels is expected to enhance its competitiveness in the domestic port and marine civil engineering market.

This contract marks Syangyong Construction's third major civil engineering project secured this year, following two sections of the southern inland railway, valued at approximately 443 billion won.

A representative from Syangyong Construction stated, "We will leverage our accumulated technology and construction experience in the port and marine infrastructure sector to successfully build high-quality and safe port facilities, contributing to the enhancement of national logistics competitiveness."

Meanwhile, Syangyong Construction is also interested in small-scale redevelopment projects, such as the street housing maintenance project and the Moa Town project. On July 2, the company announced that it has been selected as the contractor for the street housing maintenance project in the area of 46-1 Changjeon-dong, Mapo-gu, Seoul. The project, valued at approximately 121.3 billion won, involves the construction of The Platinum apartments, consisting of six buildings with a total of 292 units, ranging from five underground floors to 20 above-ground floors, along with community facilities.
