President Lee Calls for Cooperation on Mega Projects Amid Political Criticism

President Lee Jae-myung criticized political opposition on July 6 regarding the "Three Mega Projects for South Korea's Great Leap Forward," stating, "While I hope for cooperation, I would prefer that they do not obstruct our efforts to create new opportunities for struggling youth in South Korea."

During a public-private joint inspection meeting on mega projects held at the Blue House, President Lee remarked, "They complain, 'Why is it only going to the southwest region? Why were we excluded?' and then turn around and claim, 'This is a scam. It’s impossible. It’s just an event.'"

He questioned, "Is it appropriate for public officials responsible for the nation's finances to adopt such an attitude?"

President Lee specifically urged the opposition to choose between two positions: either criticize based on the premise that the projects are impossible or point out imbalances based on the belief that they are feasible. He emphasized, "I hope they refrain from obstructing in this manner."

He reiterated, "This is not an event; it is a historic turning point for balanced national development in South Korea."

He concluded by expressing hope that everyone would come together for a new beginning, stating, "The government will do its utmost to support this effort."
