Iljin Steel announced on October 15 that it has filed for an anti-dumping investigation on Chinese seamless steel pipes to restore fair competition in the domestic market and maintain its production base. The investigation was initiated following Iljin Steel's application submitted on August 5.

According to Iljin Steel, the Ministry of Trade's Trade Commission decided on October 8 to officially announce the commencement of the investigation into the dumping of Chinese seamless steel pipes and the potential harm to the domestic industry.

This investigation is prompted by the increasing market share of Chinese seamless steel pipes, which has negatively impacted the production, sales, and profitability of the domestic industry.

Despite a declining demand for domestic seamless steel pipes, the market share of Chinese products has steadily risen from 2021 to 2025, while the market share and shipment volume of domestic products have significantly decreased.

The products under investigation include seamless steel pipes made from carbon and alloy steel, which are widely used in heat recovery steam generators (HRSG), boilers, heat exchangers, line pipes, and mechanical and automotive components.

However, the investigation will exclude stainless steel pipes and casing, tubing, and drill pipe used in oil and natural gas production.

The Trade Commission has selected three representative Chinese seamless steel pipe suppliers for the investigation to determine the dumping rate. The investigation will proceed through preliminary and main investigation phases.

The final determination is expected to be made within 3 to 5 months after the preliminary ruling, although the main investigation may be extended under special circumstances.

An Iljin Steel official stated, "This investigation is not aimed at restricting imports but rather at creating a market environment where normal price competition is possible and maintaining the essential domestic production base for seamless steel pipes, which are critical to the national infrastructure industry. We will diligently submit objective data and cooperate fully with the Trade Commission's investigation."
