SEOUL, October 16 (AJP) - This year's Asian Para Games will kick off in Nagoya, Japan this weekend, bringing together athletes from across Asia for a week of competition showcasing athletic excellence while promoting diversity and inclusion.

The seven-day sporting event will begin with an opening ceremony at 6 p.m. at the multipurpose Paloma Mizuho Stadium in Nagoya, Aichi Prefecture and run through Oct. 24.

The main theme of the ceremony is "WABI," which stands for "We Are Beautiful Individuals" and conveys a message of embracing people as they are, regardless of disability, nationality or cultural background.

The ceremony will feature the Aichi region's natural environment, everyday life, traditional festivals and craftsmanship.

The event's cauldron was made collaboratively by local residents and artisans using clay from three pottery-producing areas in the region, highlighting Aichi's rich ceramic heritage.

South Korea will field a 357-member delegation including 214 athletes to compete in all 18 disciplines. The country aims to win at least 21 gold medals and finish sixth in the overall medal standings.
