The Gender Equality Ministry announced on November 2 that it will pilot a participatory gender equality education program, titled 'Beyond Assumptions, Let's Learn Together!', at two middle schools in Seoul.

'Beyond Assumptions' is designed to help students reflect on gender stereotypes and learn how to respond to discrimination that may arise in school and peer relationships.

The program emphasizes active participation, allowing students to explore hypothetical scenarios and engage in discussions and role-playing to connect gender equality to their daily lives.

The pilot program consists of two sessions. It will examine gender stereotypes that are often taken for granted in everyday life and explore potential discrimination scenarios that may occur in schools, while seeking practical responses as bystanders.

The pilot education will be conducted for first and second-year students at the selected middle schools with the cooperation of the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education. Specialized instructors appointed by the Gender Equality Institute will visit the schools to deliver the training and assess the program's applicability in real-world settings.

The Gender Equality Ministry and the Gender Equality Institute plan to finalize the content by December, incorporating feedback from participating students and teachers to ensure it can be effectively utilized in schools.

Kim Sam-hwa, head of the Gender Equality Institute, stated, 'We will listen carefully to the opinions of students and teachers during the pilot education to ensure that learning is collaborative and practical.'

Won Min-kyung, Minister of Gender Equality, emphasized, 'Reflecting on gender stereotypes from a young age and understanding diverse experiences and perspectives is a crucial starting point for fostering gender equality that we all create together.' She added that the ministry will work with relevant agencies to enhance gender equality education in schools.
