LS Group has promoted Koo Bon-kyu, CEO of LS Cable, to vice chairman as part of its 2027 executive appointments. This decision comes as major affiliates continue to achieve record performances, driven by a booming power business, while retaining most of their CEOs to stabilize the organization.

On November 5, LS Group held a board meeting to finalize the executive appointments, which will take effect on January 1, 2027.

Koo, who has led LS Cable since 2022, has focused on enhancing the company's business structure and global competitiveness. His leadership has been recognized for driving significant growth and record order achievements across key affiliates, including LS Cable, Gaon Cable, LS Eco Energy, and LS Marine Solutions.

Kim Hyung-won, vice president of LS Cable, was also promoted to president. He has been acknowledged for overseeing the energy business and expanding global orders, particularly in the submarine cable sector. He will now also manage energy operations and safety management.

LS Group's decision to retain most CEOs of its major affiliates aims to maintain the existing management structure while continuing to capitalize on the growth trend in the power infrastructure market and address uncertainties in the business environment.

The group is also pushing for generational change focused on future growth sectors. The number of new directors appointed is the largest ever at 17, accounting for about 60% of all promotions. Notably, leaders in emerging fields such as battery materials, permanent magnets, and power generation have been promoted to strengthen competitiveness in new business areas.

Additionally, LS Group has brought in external talent, hiring Choi Won-jin, who has experience with the Ministry of Finance and the International Monetary Fund (IMF), as head of the management strategy division to enhance the group's financial strategy and future business capabilities. Koo Bon-gwon, a third-generation executive, will transition from LS MnM to LS Mtron as Chief Operating Officer (COO).

In total, 15 individuals were promoted in this round of appointments, including one vice chairman, one president, one vice president, three executive directors, and nine senior directors. Specifically, Kim Woo-tae of LS Cable was promoted to vice president, while Jo Moon-ki of E1, Kim Byung-ok of LS Marine Solutions, and Hong Young-ho of LS Materials were elevated to executive director. Alongside this, nine senior directors were promoted, and 17 new directors were appointed.
