S. Korean violinist wins third place at Queen Elisabeth Competition

A 25-year old South Korean violinist Shin Hyun-su won the third place at the prestigious Queen Elisabeth Competition in Brussels, Belgium on Sunday, after playing Johannes Brahms‘ Sonata for violin and piano No. 3.

Shin, who started playing the violin at the age of 4 and began her solo career at 11, has competed in a number of renowned contests and won second prize at the Hanover International Competition in 2006.

As the third-place winner, Shin will receive a prize of 17,000 euros and play with first and second laureates, Andrey Baranov from Russia and Tatsuki Narita from Japan at a joint concert.

South Korean, Kim Dami finished among the 12 finalists without winning a prize while a Korean-American Esther Yoo came in fourth place.
