Angelina Jolie’s aunt, Debbie Martin (61), died of breast cancer on Sunday; just two weeks after Jolie revealed her double mastectomy.
Martin was sister Jolie’s mother who died of ovarian cancer.
Both Debbie Martin and Jolie’s mother carried the mutated BRCA1 cancer gene—which Angelina Jolie inherited—that exposed them to higher chance of getting breast or ovarian cancers.
Martin was the one that supported Jolie’s decision on double mastectomy, which decreased the chance of Jolie getting breast cancer.
Jolie was reportedly very close to her aunt especially after her mother’s death. Jolie could not visit her aunt on her last moment but Jolie’s brother stayed by their aunt.
