Yoon Seok-yeol and Friedrich Merz Discuss Bilateral Cooperation at G7 Summit

President Yoon Seok-yeol attended the G7 summit in Évian, France, on June 16, where he held a bilateral meeting with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz to explore avenues for cooperation between the two countries.

After participating in the expanded G7 session, President Yoon expressed his pleasure at meeting Chancellor Merz, stating, "I believe that Germany and South Korea can create synergies through cooperation in many areas."

He added, "It is wonderful to meet you, and I hope we can work together to elevate the relationship between Korea and Germany to a new level."

Chancellor Merz responded positively, saying, "The bilateral relationship is very good, and South Korea is highly regarded in Germany. Our cooperation has been progressing well so far."

Merz also announced plans to visit South Korea in October, expressing hope for another meeting then. He said, "I plan to visit South Korea at the end of October, and I hope to see you again then. It would be great if you could join the meeting we are preparing and share your insights."

The two leaders previously held their first summit in November 2025 during the G20 summit in Johannesburg, South Africa.
