Dongwon Group has introduced locally caught bluefin tuna from the East Sea to its cafeteria menu.
On June 17, Dongwon Group announced that it held an event at its headquarters cafeteria in Yangjae-dong, Seoul, where employees were served bluefin tuna sashimi. This initiative aims to promote the consumption of bluefin tuna, which has seen a recent surge in catch volume, and to foster coexistence with local fishermen.
On this day, approximately 200 kilograms of East Sea bluefin tuna were prepared on-site for employees, enough to serve around 1,000 people.
Since early June, Dongwon Industries has been purchasing domestically caught bluefin tuna from local fishermen for distribution as sashimi. Notably, the fish has not been frozen at any point from catch to distribution. It is currently available through major retail channels, including Emart, Lotte Mart, and Hyundai Department Store, as well as on Naver's brand store. Dongwon Industries is also considering a collaboration with its affiliate, Dongwon F&B, to launch a limited-edition canned tuna product featuring East Sea bluefin tuna.
A Dongwon Group representative stated, "We planned this sashimi sharing event in the cafeteria so that all employees could resonate with the spirit of supporting local fishermen. We will continue to strive to enhance the value of local marine protein and contribute to increasing the income of fishermen."
