The Korea National Railway Corporation has appointed 135 members to the 12th Design Review Committee, which will oversee the design reviews for technology-based bidding projects.

On July 2, the corporation announced that it held a ceremony to present certificates to the newly appointed committee members and conducted an integrity pledge workshop.

The committee members were selected through a public recruitment process in March and consist of experts from both inside and outside the organization across nine fields, including railway planning and civil engineering. They will evaluate design documents for technology-based bidding projects from July this year until March next year.

During the workshop, the corporation conducted an integrity pledge ceremony. It also shared the operational guidelines and upcoming revisions for the 'Integrity Reporting and Reward System,' established in April last year, to prevent corruption between bidders and committee members.

The committee will participate in design reviews related to the Southern Inland Railway project. This month, the review for the basic design technical proposal for Section 10 of the Southern Inland Railway is scheduled, followed by reviews for the detailed design technical proposals for Sections 1, 7, and 9 in September.

Construction on 10 of the 14 sections of the Southern Inland Railway began in December last year. The remaining four sections are set to undergo design reviews this year to select qualified bidders for detailed design work. As the proportion of technology-based bidding increases in large railway projects, the professionalism and transparency of design reviews are considered key factors that influence project quality and fair competition.

Lee An-ho, acting chairman of the Korea National Railway Corporation, stated, "Design reviews are a crucial process for ensuring the safety and reliability of railway construction. I hope you will work towards fostering a fair bidding culture based on high professionalism and integrity."
