POSCO, in collaboration with POSCO Wide, is implementing a smart facility management system at the POSCO Center, transitioning high-risk and repetitive tasks to a robot-centric approach.
According to industry sources, POSCO conducted a two-month pilot test of cleaning robots in various areas of the POSCO Center, including the exterior, lobby, and underground parking lot, starting in March. In April, the company visited the Shanghai Cleaning Expo to explore global technology trends and assess suitable robots for the POSCO Center.
Cleaning the exterior of high-rise buildings poses significant safety risks, as workers rely on ropes and gondolas for high-altitude tasks, increasing the likelihood of falls and equipment failures. To address this, POSCO introduced robots for cleaning the glass curtain wall of the POSCO Center on September 5, marking the first use of such technology in Korea.
Cleaning robots have also been deployed in the building's lobby and underground parking lot. The lobby cleaning robot can clean approximately 300 pyeong for about 3 to 4 hours on a single charge, while the parking lot robot can cover around 600 pyeong for up to 8 hours. The introduction of these robots has reportedly reduced the labor intensity and nighttime repetitive tasks for cleaning staff, while enhancing facility cleanliness and operational efficiency.
Additionally, the POSCO Center's business lounge features three serving robots capable of delivering beverages and collecting empty cups, along with a barista robot in the first-floor Steel Gallery lounge, providing a new service experience for employees and visitors.
A POSCO representative stated, "We plan to continue utilizing robot technology to improve high-risk and repetitive tasks, enhancing worker safety and facility management efficiency to create a safe and convenient work environment."
