The Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH) will expedite the process for the Goyang Daegok Knowledge Convergence and Uiwang Ojeon Wanggok public housing districts, aiming to supply 23,400 housing units. The goal is to begin construction by 2029.
On October 2, LH announced that it is moving forward with the planning procedures for the Goyang Daegok Knowledge Convergence and Uiwang Ojeon Wanggok public housing districts. These areas were designated as public housing districts on September 22, following their selection as new candidate sites for the metropolitan area in November 2024. LH is the project implementer.
LH had already commissioned preliminary design studies in May, ahead of the district designation, and has completed the selection of the consulting firm. This proactive approach allowed LH to begin planning immediately after the designation, reducing the project timeline by approximately four months.
In the first half of next year, LH plans to apply for approval of the district plan and complete the necessary permitting processes by the second half. Following this, compensation and construction activities will commence, with the aim of starting housing construction in 2029.
The two districts account for about 46.8% of the 50,000 housing units announced by the government for the metropolitan area in November 2024. The supply plan includes 9,000 units in Goyang Daegok and 14,000 units in Uiwang Ojeon Wanggok. The recent designation increased the number of units in Goyang Daegok to 9,400, while Uiwang Ojeon Wanggok will maintain its original plan of 14,000 units.
The Goyang Daegok Knowledge Convergence district will cover an area of 1,994,000 square meters in Daechang-dong, Goyang City. It will be well-connected by five rail lines, including GTX-A, Subway Line 3, Gyeongui-Jungang Line, Seohae Line, and the suburban line, all accessible from the nearby Daegok Station.
The Uiwang Ojeon Wanggok district will span 1,876,000 square meters in Ojeon and Wanggok-dong, Uiwang City. It will be accessible via Gyeongsu-daero and the Gwacheon-Bongdam urban expressway, with the Uiwang City Hall Station (tentative name) on the Indukwon-Dongtan double-track railway expected to open in 2029, located about 700 meters away.
An LH official stated, “We will meticulously manage the schedule to ensure that the 2029 construction goal is achieved without delays and will promptly advance subsequent procedures such as compensation and construction.”
