Samsung Heavy Industries has once again demonstrated its competitive edge in the LNG carrier sector by securing 20 orders for LNG carriers this year.

On October 2, Samsung Heavy Industries announced that it has received an order for two LNG carriers worth 672.2 billion won from a shipowner in Asia. The vessels are scheduled for delivery by May 2029.

The success in securing a large number of LNG carrier orders is attributed to the company’s third dock at its Geoje shipyard. The dock, measuring 640 meters in length and 97.5 meters in width, can accommodate the simultaneous construction of four large LNG carriers, ensuring stable delivery timelines even for bulk orders. Additionally, the establishment of a smart shipyard based on 3X technology, which integrates digital, artificial intelligence, and robotics, is enhancing production efficiency and quality competitiveness.

In July, Samsung Heavy Industries announced a 10 trillion won investment in its Geoje facility to develop a state-of-the-art base for constructing high-value-added ships and marine infrastructure. This significant investment is expected to accelerate the pace of building its smart shipyard.

Samsung Heavy Industries' order intake in the commercial ship sector this year has reached $8 billion, achieving 140% of its annual target of $5.7 billion. The orders include 20 LNG carriers (including one LNG-FSRU), two ethane carriers, six gas carriers, four container ships, and 14 oil tankers, totaling 46 vessels. When including $4.4 billion in the offshore sector, the total order intake stands at 48 vessels worth $12.4 billion, achieving 89% of its annual target of $13.9 billion.

A representative from Samsung Heavy Industries stated, "We play a key role in the global LNG value chain with our LNG carriers and FLNG units, and we will lead the market with differentiated technology and construction competitiveness."
