Humax Mobility's parking infrastructure subsidiary, Hi-Parking, has implemented an artificial intelligence (AI)-based parking guidance system at the Ewha Womans University Medical Center parking lot. The system analyzes vehicle movement and congestion in real-time to guide drivers to available parking spaces and exits, enhancing convenience for visitors at the large hospital.

On October 27, Humax Mobility announced the installation of the AI-based smart video guidance system, Ai-PAS, at the medical center's parking facility located in Magok, Gangseo-gu, Seoul.

This installation builds on AI parking technology applied at Seoul Station in September, tailored to the unique environment of a hospital where visitor traffic peaks during appointment times and vehicle movement coincides with pedestrian activity.

The Ewha Womans University Medical Center parking lot spans over 2,000 spaces across six underground levels. Its similar floor structure can make it challenging for visitors to locate their parked vehicles, and they may experience difficulties finding available spots or confirming exit routes. Particularly during peak times before and after appointments, long wait times can occur both inside the parking facility and at the exits.

Hi-Parking has installed over 370 AI cameras, 80 smart digital displays, and around 20 license plate recognition (LPR) cameras in the facility. The AI cameras track vehicle movement throughout the parking area, including aisles, in real-time. An AI server analyzes this data to assess congestion and vehicle flow, with results communicated to drivers via on-site digital displays.

The AI analysis is also utilized during the exit process. The system assesses congestion levels in different areas in real-time and directs vehicles to relatively less crowded exits. This approach aims to reduce long wait times at specific exits and evenly distribute the overall exit flow from the parking facility.

Additionally, the system provides guidance to available parking spots and alerts drivers to be cautious when pedestrians are approaching or when vehicles cross paths. This feature is designed to enhance both the convenience and safety of parking for visitors to the hospital.

Park Jun-kyu, CEO of Hi-Parking, stated, “Since the hospital parking lot is the first space patients and their guardians encounter, we have advanced the Ai-PAS system introduced at Seoul Station to ensure the parking facility can autonomously recognize and respond to situations. We aim to reduce current parking inconveniences while preparing the infrastructure for a future where autonomous vehicles and robo-taxis can operate seamlessly in hospital parking lots.”
