Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian visited Russia on October 27, where he met with President Vladimir Putin to discuss regional issues and ways to enhance cooperation between the two countries.

According to Iranian state media Press TV and Xinhua, President Pezeshkian held talks with President Putin during the 8th Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) summit in Moscow.

During the meeting, Pezeshkian urged for the promotion of multilateralism in response to unilateral actions by the United States and called for increased exchanges among countries facing Western sanctions.

He emphasized that "regional countries have the capability and determination to address pressing challenges without relying on the United States."

Pezeshkian expressed gratitude for Russia's support on political and economic matters and conveyed a desire to strengthen cooperation across various fields, including science, economy, industry, culture, security, and military.

This summit took place amid rising tensions in the Middle East and ongoing close ties between Russia and Iran. The two leaders had previously met twice during the CIS summit and the Caspian Environment Summit held in Turkmenistan on October 9.

In response, President Putin noted that trade between the two countries has increased by 10.4% compared to the same period last year over the past eight months.

He also mentioned that the construction of the Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant in Iran, led by the Russian state-owned company Rosatom, is progressing smoothly, and that Russia is diligently fulfilling all agreements related to joint projects with Iran. He expressed hope for a positive stabilization of the Middle East situation.

The Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant, located in the southern Gulf region of Iran, is the only operational nuclear power plant in the country. Currently, expansion projects for Units 2 and 3 are underway with the support of technology and equipment from Rosatom, and the two countries have continued their nuclear cooperation despite Western sanctions against Iran.

Meanwhile, according to Iranian state news agency IRNA, President Pezeshkian also met with Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Emir of Qatar, prior to his talks with President Putin to discuss expanding bilateral relations and energy cooperation.
