South Korea’s Hydro & Nuclear Power Co said on Wednesday that it had decided to temporarily halt the operation of a nuclear reactor in Busan area, southeast of S. Korea, which experienced a power failure last week.

Kim Jong-shin, KHNP chief executive, said, “We have to decide to resume Gori-1 unit after doing through safety check.

No specific date for the safety check had yet been set as it depends on the results of the inspection which will be led by the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology.

The shutdown came as doubt were raised that the accident was not caused by a circuit breaker malfunction but by more fundamental safety issues, Korea Herald reported.
