South Korean mobile messenger operator Daum Kakao said Wednesday it will launch a taxi service app during the first quarter of next year.
To this end, the company signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Seoul Taxi Association and Korea Smart Card Co. at its office in Hannam-dong, Seoul, earlier in the day.
The app, dubbed "Kakao Taxi," would link customers with the closest cab, officials of Daum Kakao said.
Daum Kakao was created on Oct. 1 from the merger of Daum Communications, the country's second-largest Internet portal company, and Kakao Corp., the nation's top mobile messenger service provider. The taxi association has 255 member companies, and Korea Smart Card is a top transportation payment system provider.
